Mrs. Elizabeth Burrus Tucker, 91, a former resident of 365 Goshen Road, Engelhard, and more recently a resident of Cross Creek Health Care Center in Swan Quarter, died Sunday, March 23, 2003, at Cross Creek.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Burrus family cemetery, beside her former home, with Doug Gibbs and Steve Bryan officiating.
Mrs. Tucker was born in Hyde County on Jan. 17, 1912. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Ellen Jennette Burrus. She lived in New Jersey for a number of years, working as a security guard with Western Electric and later as a superintendent of apartments. After returning to Hyde County, she was a secretary with the former Jolley's Television in Engelhard and she worked with John Fletcher, attorney. She was married to Robert Epes Tucker, who preceded her in death in 1996. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in New Jersey. She was a Methodist for most of her life.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty T. Ballance of Engelhard and Lillian T. Girsham of Woodford, Va.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mae Jean Raczenski in 1995; grandchildren, Roger Lee Ballance, Baby Boy Girsham, Deborah Leigh Gibbs and Charles Robert Raczenski; brothers, Robert Burrus, William Pell Burrus, George Taylor Burrus and Harry Burrus; sisters, Mary Burrus, Julianna Cahoon, Rosalie Roper and Geneva Cox.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bryan Funeral Service, Swan Quarter, and at other times at the home of Betty and Vernon Ballance, 796 Goshen Road, Engelhard.
