Mr. Merlin “Dibble” Woolard

Mr. Merlin “Dibble” Woolard, age 64, a resident of 2610 Old Bath Highway, Washington, died Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2007 from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home, Washington, conducted by Pastor Phillip Jethro. Masonic burial rites will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Washington.
The following will serve as pallbearers: Barry Woolard, Danny Woolard, Donald Ray Woolard, Marty Alligood, Jerry Alligood, Wilbur Alligood, Preston Alligood and Don Carson Alligood.
Mr. Woolard was born in Beaufort County on July 25, 1942. He was the son of the late Fay Woolard and Cassie Mae Alligood Woolard. Mr. Woolard was a graduate of Washington High School. He worked at Brown &Root at Texasgulf. Later, Mr. Woolard worked as an audio engineer at WITN Radio and WITN-TV, retiring in 1975. After retirement, he continued working in sales and service in the farm equipment business.
Mr. Woolard was a Mason and member of Orr Lodge #104 A.F. &A.M. He enjoyed his short wave radio and his fellow HAM radio operators. Mr. Woolard was very involved in fund raisers for Muscular Dystrophy. On October 3, 1964, Mr. Woolard married the former Kaye Modlin, who survives.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Merilynn Woolard Crisp and her husband, Greg of Chocowinity, Emily Woolard Bland and her husband, Larry of Washington; four grandchildren, Emma Crisp, Will Crisp, Katie Bland, Carson Bland; and a brother, Murphy M. Woolard of Tampa, FL.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Woolard was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Gene Woolard.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, February 9, 2007 at Paul Funeral Home, Washington and other times at the home.
