VIRGINIA BEACH — Edward Leigh Thompson, 86, passed away peacefully February 12, 2007. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and friend. He loved his family and he loved life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Edward was the son of Clara Woolard and Henry B. Thompson and was predeceased by a brother Henry B. Thompson Jr. and a sister Betsy T. Shaw. He was born and raised in Washington, North Carolina. Ed is survived by the love and light of his life, his devoted wife, Sylvia S. Thompson. They met while on a blind date. She was engaged to another and he swept her off her feet. The love story lasted a lifetime. They were hardly ever apart.
Also left to cherish his memory is his devoted son Douglas E. Thompson and his wife Barbara B. Thompson of Virginia Beach and their son, Sean Hayes of Kitty Hawk, N.C. A daughter, Betsy Seawell and husband Bryan of Colington, N.C. And two granddaughters that were the twinkle and sparkle in their “Pap-Pap’s” eyes: Dorian Barranti and Elise Seawell both of Colington, N.C. He is also survived by his loving nieces Diane Gerard and husband Walter of Washington, Susan Gerard and husband Al of Blounts Creek, Cathy Fletcher and husband Fred of Washington, and Ms. Jami Gerard, of Greenville.
Friends visited the family Wednesday, Feb. 14th, 6-8 p.m. at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., on Laskin Road. The funeral will be conducted Thursday, February 15th at 3 p.m. at Virginia Beach United Methodist Church. Burial to follow at Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery, Virginia Beach.
