Mr. William James Gibbs Sr., 86, of 127 Rhodes Road, Columbia, died Sunday, March 18, 2007, at Chowan County Hospital.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Azalea Memorial Gardens, Columbia, with the Rev. Joe Wynn officiating.
Mr. Gibbs was born in Gum Neck, Tyrrell County, on Aug. 22, 1920. He was the son of the late George Avery Gibbs and Verna Mae Gibbs. He was married to Jacqueline Selby Gibbs, who survives. He had worked with the Civil Service as an electronic technician. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include one daughter, Karen James of Virginia Beach, Va.; and three sons, Billy Gibbs and Barry Gibbs, both of Columbia, and Nick Gibbs of Dover, Del.
He was preceded in death by one son, Steve Gibbs.
Visitation will be held today from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Smith and Austin Funeral Home Chapel, Columbia.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tyrrell County Library.
