Mrs. Lena Harris Johnson, age 84, a resident of 625 Main Street, Pinetown, N.C. died Wednesday April 18, 2007 at the Beaufort County Hospital in Washington, N.C.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2007 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington officiated by Kent Gurganus and Mike Caton. Burial will follow in the Latham Cemetery on Long Ridge Road, Pinetown. Gilbert Alligood, Mitch Harris, Jr., Frederick Tetterton, Andy Lee, William Ray Askew and Billy Brown will serve as pallbearers. Elders and Deacons of Pinetown Church of Christ will be honorary pallbearers.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Beaufort County on July 31, 1922 daughter of the late Joe Harris and the late Minnie Latham Harris. She married Melbourne Clarence “Bill” Johnson on February 19, 1944 who preceded her in death on February 13, 1985 Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker and worked as a School Bus Driver for the former Pinetown Elementary School. She was a member of Pinetown Church Of Christ.
Survivors include a son: Melbourne Marlowe Johnson and his wife Kay of Washington; a daughter: Vickie Kaye Johnson of the home; a granddaughter: Carol Ann Schweikert and her husband Dave of Noblesville, IN; a grandson: Derek Marlowe Johnson of Artesia, NM; two great grandchildren: Laura Olivia Schweikert and Jenna Elizabeth Schweikert both of Noblesville, IN and a nephew Mitchell T. Harris and his wife Jane of Washington. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by a daughter: Sandra Kaye Johnson; two brothers: Jesse Rudolph Harris and Fred Harris and a sister: Gladys Harris Gurkin.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2007 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and at other times at the home of Mrs. Johnson’s son Marlowe located at 652 Biggs Road, Washington, N.C.
