Mr. William L. Cooke of Windsor died Monday, June 4, 2007, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Cashie Baptist Church, Windsor.
Mr. Cooke was born in Bertie County on May 19, 1925. He was the son of the late W.A. and Nina Parker Cooke. He served as a navigator in the Naval Reserve during and after World War II. He graduated from law school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was admitted to the bar in 1950. He was married to Betty Butler Cooke, who survives. He practiced law in Windsor for 50 years. He was a member of the Bertie County Bar Association and served as its president from 1952-1954. He was a member of the North Carolina and American Bar Associations, sixth judicial district and served as its president from 1967-1968. He was also a member of the N.C. Academy of Trial Lawyers. He was a member of Cashie Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Molly Cooke and Marcella C. Cockerham; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Leigh C. Ambrose and one sister, Jacquelyn Cooke.
The family will receive friends at the home.
