Mrs. Iris Brunetta “Doll” Green Burgess of 2904 Catalina Road, Fayetteville, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007, at High-Smith-Rainey Hospital in Fayetteville.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in Wiseman Mortuary, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Paul McNeil officiating. Burial will follow in Rockfish Memorial Park, Fayetteville.
Mrs. Burgess was born in Washington on June 10, 1954. She was the daughter of Marion Lee Green Jr. and Edith Wilson Alston Green of Washington. She attended the Beaufort County Schools and Beaufort Tech Community College. She received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from North Central University, Durham, and completed advanced studies in elementary education at Fayetteville State University. She worked as an elementary school teacher in Fayetteville for 24 years. On June 12, 1982, she married Eugene Burgess Jr., who survives. She was a member of Christian Life Family Worship Center in Sanford, where she sang in the choir.
Survivors include two daughters, Crystal Jene’ Burgess and Yashicia Antionette Burgess of the home; three brothers, Marion Allen Green, Irvin Thomas Green and Oscar Gene Green, all of Washington; and three sisters, Delores L. Green of Norfolk, Va., Inez M. Green of Durham, and Charlene Green Fisher of Fayetteville.
The family will receive friends at the home. Viewing will take place today from 2-8 p.m. at Wiseman Mortuary, Fayetteville.
