Mrs. Leona Lawrence Godwin, 96, of Imperial Plaza in Richmond, Va., died Monday, Aug. 13, 2007, at home.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Church of the Advent, Williamston, with the Rev. Jim Horton officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Godwin was born in Halifax County on Aug. 29, 1910. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Duke Lawrence and Ethel Pittman Lawrence. On Nov. 16, 1940, she married Verner D. Godwin Jr., who survives. She was a graduate of High Point College. She was a pioneer in rural electrification in Halifax County in the 1930s. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of the Advent, Williamston.
Survivors include two daughters, Montez G. Weston of Richmond, Va., and Wanda G. Milford of Novato, Calif.; one son, Verner D. “Buzzy” Godwin of Statesville; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends today from 7-8:30 p.m. at Biggs Funeral Home, Williamston, and other times at the home of Mrs. William Coppage, 700 School Drive, Williamston.
