ROBERSONVILLE — The Roanoke Redskin’s offense lulled Gates County to sleep Friday night, and woke up with a 30-6 victory.
The Redskin’s dominated time of possesion with 342 rushing yards and three drives of 13 plays or longer.
Brusing running back Savion Hudson led the charge, rushing for 200 yards on 27 carries.
Holding a 7-0 lead in the second quarter, Roanoke drove 86 yards on 15 plays in a drive that almost lasted the entire the second quarter.
Hudson capped the long drive, which put Roanoke in full control of the game, with a 1-yard touchdown plunge.
Prior to the long drive, Roanoke (3-0) made the biggest defensive play of the game. Gates County was driving down the field for a drive that looked like it would tie the game, but a Roanoke defender cause a fumble that turned the tide and diminished Gates County.
The Redskin’s defense forced and recovered another fumble in the second half that really sealed the victory, and allowed only 215 total yards and one pass completion for 20 yards.
Gates County only ran five offensive plays in the third quarter, and totaled 35 offesnive plays compared to Roanoke’s 62.
Roanoke’s senioir quarterback Alonzo Higgins completed 4-of-9 passes for 34 yards, and scored on 15-yard rushing scamper to open the Roanoke scoring halfway through the first quarter.
Higgins also had a 17-yard touchdown pass to Kenneth Hyman in the fourth quarter, but it was negated by a offensive face mask penalty. Hyman did officially record a touchdown with a 4-yard run later in the drive.
