Mr. Wiley Ralph Edwards, 91, of 738 W. Main St., Belhaven, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, at home.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Oakdale Cemetery, Washington, with pastors Allen Harmen and Ron Bousquet officiating. Mr. Edwards’ grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Edwards was born in Pinetown on Dec. 18, 1915. He was the son of the late Charles Henry Edwards Sr. and Mattie Lillian Wilkinson Edwards. He was a graduate of the former Belhaven High School. He served in the Army infantry during World War II. On April 30, 1938, he married the former Johnnie Mae Squires, who preceded him in death Sept. 30, 1989. He was the retired co-owner, co-operator and president of Coastal Oil Company in Belhaven. He was a member of the American Legion Post 249 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Belhaven Post 10347. He was a member of Belhaven Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Betty E. Waters of Belhaven, Carol E. Hill of Murfreesboro and Marion E. Medlock of Greenville, S.C.; two sons, Johnny Ralph Edwards of South Hill, Va., and Ricky D. Edwards of Mt. Olive; three sisters, Mattie L. Jones of Greenville, Ill., Doris M. Carter of Tarboro and Mary L. McArthur of Zebulon; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Harrell and Beatrice Quidley and three brothers, Carl C. Edwards, Edgar Lee Edwards and Charles Henry Edwards Jr.
The family will receive friends Friday from noon to 1 p.m. at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven and other times at the home.
