Mr. Wiley “Ralph” Edwards, age 91, a resident of 738 West Main Street, Belhaven, N.C. died Tuesday October 30, 2007 at his home.
A graveside funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday, November 2, 2007 at Oakdale Cemetery of Washington officiated by Pastor Allen Harmen and Pastor Ron Bousquet. Pallbearers will be Greg Nixon, Bobby Nixon, Richard Pugh, Stephen Rose, David Edwards, Jr. Christopher Lewellen, Brad Nixon and Jimmy Waters.
Mr. Edwards was born in Pinetown on December 18, 1915 son of the late Charles Henry Edwards, Sr. and the late Mattie Lillian Wilkinson Edwards. He was a graduate of the former Belhaven High School and served his country in the US Army Infantry during World War II. Mr. Edwards married the former Johnnie Mae Squires on April 30, 1938 who preceded him in death on September 30, 1989. He was the retired co-owner, co-operator and president of Coastal Oil Company in Belhaven. He was a member of the Belhaven Free Will Baptist Church, the American Legion Post 249 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Belhaven Post 10347.
Survivors include three daughters: Betty E. Waters of Belhaven, Carol E. Hill of Murfreesboro and Marion E. Medlock of Greenville, S.C.; two sons: Johnny Ralph Edwards of South Hill, Va. and Ricky D. Edwards of Mt. Olive; three sisters: Mattie L. Jones of Greenville, IL, Doris M. Carter of Tarboro and Mary L. McArthur of Zebulon; twelve grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by two sisters: Irene Harrell and Beatrice Quidley and three brothers: Carl C. Edwards, Edgar Lee Edwards and Charles Henry Edwards, Jr.
The family will receive friends from 12 Noon to 1 p.m. Friday November 2, 2007 at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven and at other times at the home located at 738 West Main Street, Belhaven, N.C.
