Mrs. Minnie Russell Whitney, 70, of 195 Old Highway 264, Scranton, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007, at home.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Old Richmond Missionary Baptist Church, Swan Quarter, with Elder James Stanley officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Temple Baptist Church Cemetery, Scranton.
Mrs. Whitney was born in Hyde County on Aug. 6, 1937. She was the daughter of the late Lula Mae O’Neal Russell and John Tilson Russell Sr. She attended the Hyde County Training Schools. She had been employed in the home health care program. She was married to Raleigh Whitney, who preceded her in death. She was a member of Zion Temple Baptist Church, Sladesville community, Scranton, where she served as an usher and on the kitchen committee.
Survivors include two sons, Albert L. Russell of Scranton, and Charles C. Simms of the home; two sisters, Barbara O’Neal of Engelhard, and Sylvia Williams of Bronx, N.Y.; one brother, Lonnie Russell; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Edward Sterling Whitney and one brother, John T. Russell Jr.
The family will receive friends today from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Randolph Funeral Home, 219 N. Bonner St., Washington, and other times at the home.
