Mr. William David Cooper, 64, of Columbia, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, at Chowan Hospital in Edenton.
A funeral will be conducted today at 2 p.m. in Sound Side Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Crabtree and the Rev. Joseph Wynns officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors.
Mr. Cooper was born in Tyrrell County on Nov. 24, 1943. He was the son of Victoria Brickhouse Cooper and the late Chester W. Cooper. He served in the Army for 20 years until his retirement. He was married to Sandra Lane Cooper, who survives. He worked as a computer systems analyst for the Department of Defense. He was a member of Welch’s Creek Hunting Club. He was a member of Sound Side Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Sandra C. Treakle of Richmond, Va.; five sons, William Cooper Jr. of Kitty Hawk, Gary Cooper of Richmond, Va., Keith Cooper of Baghdad, Iraq; Danny Cooper of Manteo and Brian Cooper of Greenville; three sisters, Joyce Cooper and Vicky Cuthrell, both of Columbia, and Brenda Cooper of Littleton; two brothers, John Cooper of Plymouth and Donald Cooper of Columbia; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Chester M. Cooper.
Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
