Mrs. Mary Jeanine Cox “Jean” Jones, 79, of 33 Godley Road, Grimesland, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday in Paul Funeral Home, Washington, with the Rev. George Jones officiating. Burial will follow in St. Johns Episcopal Church cemetery in Grifton.
Kenneth Warren, David Warren, Richard Warren, Lee Mills, Gray Mayo and Randy Cox will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Jones was born in Pitt County on Nov. 24, 1928. She was the daughter of Marie Baker Cox and the late Walter Lee Cox Sr. She was a graduate of the former Chicod High School and continued her education at East Carolina Teaching College. On Sept. 24, 1947, she married Clarence Van-Deren Jones Sr., who preceded her in death April 14, 1997. She was a retired floral designer who had worked with Myers Florist in Washington and Cox Floral Service of Greenville. She was a member of Chocowinity United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, William Edward Jones of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and C. Van Jones Jr. of Grimesland; one daughter, Donna Jones Warren of Washington; one brother, Jerry Randall Cox of Greenville; one sister, Peggy C. Karsnak of Greenville and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Lee Cox Jr. and James Ray Cox.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Paul Funeral Home, Washington, and other times at the home.
