Mr. Harvard D. Cates, 72, of Santree Drive, Williamston, died Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at Martin General Hospital in Williamston.
A celebration of Mr. Cates’ life and visitation will be held Friday at 7 p.m. in First United Methodist Church in Williamston.
Mr. Cates was born in Forsyth County on Feb. 8, 1936. He was the son of the late Charles and Lula Pinnix Cates. On March 15, 1968, he married the former Lucille Godard, who survives. He was an Army veteran. He was a retired self employed painter. He had formerly lived in Wilmington and Raleigh.
Survivors include one son, Pete Cates of Winston-Salem; one daughter, Carla Comer of Winston-Salem; one stepdaughter, Cathy Critcher of Williamston; four sisters, Helen Evans of Kernersville, Dorothy Trivette of Mocksville and Marjorie Seles and Jean Giles, both of Winston-Salem; five stepgrandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 1740 Broadway, New York, NY 10019.
