Mrs. Hattie Loran Thigpen Keyes, 75, of 67 Jasmine Drive, Chocowinity, died Sunday, March 9, 2008, at Beaufort County Hospital in Washington.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in St. John Missionary Baptist Church, Washington, with Bishop Carlton Keyes officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Washington.
Mrs. Keyes was born in Hyde County on Sept. 22, 1932. She was the daughter of the late Dessie Farrow and Alfred Thigpen. She attended the Hyde County Schools. On June 18, 1976, she married Fred Keyes, who survives. She had been employed in home health care. She was a member of Mary’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Washington, where she served as Mother Deacon.
Survivors include three daughters, Josephine Copeland, Dollie Lawrence and Lorena Worsley, all of Washington; six sons, Peter Copeland of Stone Mountain, Ga., Frank Copeland of New York, Jimmy Copeland and Bennie Copeland, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., Billy Copeland of Greenville and Mackle Copeland of Washington; four sisters, Ada Coward and Rose Thigpen, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., Lillian Slade of Washington and Mary Blount of Swan Quarter; one brother, Gene Thigpen of Hyde County; 33 grandchildren and 68 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, one son, one sister and three brothers.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Arrangements are by Randolph Funeral Home, 219 N. Bonner St., Washington.
