Mrs. Elizabeth Oden Elliott, 97, of 14762 US Highway 264 East, Pinetown, died Sunday, March 23, 2008 at her home.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Oakdale Cemetery with Mike Huppmann officiating. Dale Oden, Mark Boxer, Stephen Oden, John David Oden, Bill Elliott and Jimmy Latham will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until the funeral hour at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Highway 264 East, Washington.
Mrs. Elliott, affectionately known as “Aunt Betsy,” was born November 14, 1910 in Beaufort County. She was the daughter of the late John Henry Oden, Sr. and Mary Hobson Oden. On June 9, 1934, she married Marvin J. Elliott, who preceded her in death on January 30, 1972. Mrs. Elliott was a graduate of Washington Collegiate Institute and Atlantic Christian College. She began her teaching career at Pinetown Elementary School. She was a former member of the Eastern Star in Hopewell, VA. She and her husband built Rivercrest Golf Course, now known as Jordan Point Country Club, and she taught at Dupont Elementary from 1946-1966. Upon returning to Beaufort County, Mrs. Elliott taught in Belhaven and Pantego in the late 60’s and early 70’s.
Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn E. Holden and husband, O. Allen Holden, Jr. of Newport News, VA; one granddaughter, Suzanna H. Pangilinan and husband, Anthony of Ashburn, VA; and two great-grandchildren, Tristan John Pangilinan and Corbin Holden Pangilinan. She is also survived by Friends and Family of the Heart, Francis Alligood, Marie Boyd, LaVerne Bailey, Margaret Harris, Sherry Modlin, Linda Squires, June Stell and Thelma Waters.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Elliott was also preceded in death by her brother, John H. “Jack” Oden, Jr. and her nephew, John H. Oden, III.
