A handful of local schools will be participating in the first Washington Daily News/Northside Easter Invitational.
The baseball and softball tournaments will be held Friday and Saturday at Northside High School. There will be two baseball games each day, along with six softball contests per day.
Four baseball teams, including Northside and Southside, and eight softball teams, including Washington, Northside and Southside, will participate in the tournament.
In baseball, Southside and Halifax Academy will play at 5 p.m. Friday, followed by a game between Northside and Northampton-East.
The losers will play Saturday at 5 p.m. The winners will play in the championship game immediately following.
In softball, Southside and Edenton will begin the action at 10 a.m. Friday. That will be followed by games pitting Currituck against Farmville, Washington versus Manteo and Northside battling West Craven, respectively.
The Southside-Edenton loser will then face the Currituck-Farmville loser. Friday’s action will conclude with a game pitting the Washington-Manteo loser against the Northside-West Craven loser.
There will be six more games on tap for Saturday with action beginning at 10 a.m.
Admission is $5 per day. However, if you leave, you must purchase another ticket to re-enter.
A concession stand “with the works,” according to Boyd, will be open during the tournament. Coolers will not be permitted.
