Mr. Thomas S. “Mayo” Johnson of 1084 U.S. Highway 64 East, Plymouth, died Sunday, April 27, 2008, at Plumblee Nursing Center, Plymouth.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Spring Green Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ), Plymouth, with the Rev. Brady Carmack Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Spruill Eternal Rest Cemetery, Plymouth.
Mr. Johnson was born in Windsor on March 1, 1911. He was the son of the late Henry and Olivia Mayo Johnson. He served in the Army from 1942-1946 earning the American Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He was married to Lidie Bee Sherrod Johnson, who preceded him in death. He had worked as a service station attendant and helper with Thurston Freight Line. He was a member of the Plymouth Cobras and Sandhill Sluggers.
Survivors include one son, Thomas S. Johnson Jr. and one brother, William Sanford Harrington of Atlantic City, N.J.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Johnson and one brother, Henry Johnson.
The family will receive friends today from 6-7 p.m. at Puckett-Purkett Funeral Service, Roper.
