Iola Hardy Griffin

GREENVILLE — Iola Hardy Griffin went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.
The funeral service will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel by the Rev. James Ed Gurkins. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Martin Memorial Gardens in Williamston.
Iola was born May 12, 1930 to the late Dock Oliver and Inez Boyd Hardy of Beaufort County. She was married to George Robert Griffin who preceded her in death in July 1998. She lived the majority of her life in the Farm Life community of Martin County before moving to Pitt County in 2000 to live with her daughter and son in-law in Black Jack. Iola retired from Belk in Williamston, and in her later years worked part time as a cashier with Food Lion. She was a member of the Black Jack Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church and was a former member of Piney Grove Baptist Church in Williamston.
Iola was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be greatly missed by all. Her greatest joy was time spent with her family and her Chihuahua, Ms. Phoebe.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Philbert J. Hardy and Levi Jerome Hardy, and sisters, Mavis H. Manning, and Melba Sue Hardy.
She leaves to cherish her memories: daughters, Phyllis Woolard and husband, Darrell, of Blounts Creek, and Sue Ellen Moseley and husband, Ronald, of Black Jack; grandsons, Ryan T. Woolard, of Raleigh, and Corporal Ross G. Woolard, of Cherry Point; sisters, Reatha Elks, and Julie H. Smith and husband, Jesse; and brother, Charles B. Hardy and wife, Nancy, all of Washington.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home, and other times at the residence at 2356 Lester Mills Road, Greenville.
