Mrs. Leona Bowden “Nana” Wallace, 85, of Hollis, N.Y., and formerly of Hyde County, died Sunday, June 8, 2008, at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Queens, N.Y.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Engelhard, with minister Wallace Selby officiating. Burial will follow in Bowden family cemetery.
Mrs. Wallace was born in Hyde County on July 26, 1922. She was the daughter of the late Richard D. and Mary Spencer Bowden. She attended the Hyde County Schools. She was married to Edward S. Wallace, who preceded her in death. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Engelhard.
Survivors include two daughters, Robin Wallace of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Diann Terry of Georgia; one son, Willie Wallace of Hollis, N.Y.; one sister, Eara Canady of Hollis, N.Y.; one brother, Willie Lee Bowden of Brooklyn, N.Y., and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by several siblings.
A wake will be held at noon Saturday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Engelhard, and other times at the home of Collin Bowden, Rt. 1, Box 109, Lake Swamp Road, Engelhard.
Arrangements are by Leon Randolph Funeral Home, 208 W. Seventh St., Washington.
