Mr. Ab Thomas Windley, Jr., 90, of 399 Beaver Dam Road, Pinetown, died on Friday, June 20, 2008 at his home.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Shiloh Free Will Baptist Church in Pinetown with the Rev. Bill Mobley and the Rev. Michael Windley officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
The following will serve as pallbearers: Stevie Askew, Dion Askew, Matthew Windley, Charles Thomas Smith, Seth Windley and Shawn Maham.
Mr. Windley was born on November 23, 1917 in Beaufort County. He was the son of the late Ab Thomas Windley, Sr. and the late Rena Caraway Windley. He attended John Small School in Washington. He served his country in the Army and reenlisted in the Navy. During his Navy career he served during World War II and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. On June 9, 1943, Mr. Windley married the former Salathiel Frances Ratcliff, who survives. Following his military career, Mr. Windley was a heavy equipment operator with many local land developers. At the time of his retirement in 1983 he was the manager of Weyerhaeuser’s Logging Compound. He was a member of Shiloh Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include three daughters, Norma Askew-Riddick, Brenda Gurkin and Linda Foreman all of Pinetown; three sons, Edward Windley and Wiley Windley both of Raleigh and Mitchell Windley of Spruce Pine; one sister, Sally Mae Moore of Chesapeake, Va.; 15 grandchildren and 16 great grand-children.
Mr. Windley was preceded in death by three sisters: Grace Windley, Mable Lilley and Rena Porter, and one brother: Edward R. Windley, and a granddaughter.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and at other times at the home, located at 399 Beaver Dam Road, Pinetown.
