Mrs. Doris Wall McRoy Hill, age 85, a resident of 3856 Gilead Shores Rd., Blounts Creek, passed away Monday, July 14, 2008 at Britthaven of Washington.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and will be conducted by Jason Kirkman. Burial will follow at Haw Branch Church of Christ Cemetery. Jessie Dixon, Phillip Dixon, Royce Dixon, Phillip Woolard, Shawn Harding, Don Hill and Carlos Woolard will serve as pallbearers.
Doris was born in Beaufort Co. on December 2, 1922 to the late Jessie Gray Wall and Lossie McLawhorn Wall. She grew up in the Broad Creek Community in Washington and graduated from Bath High School. Her parents moved the family to Blounts Creek after her graduation and except for a short time of working in Baltimore during WWII, and a few years following her marriage in Williamsburg, VA, she lived all of her life in Beaufort County. She always enjoyed sewing and made clothes, handmade quilts and other beautiful presents for family and friends into her 85th year. She was married to Milford (Mack) Guy McRoy, who preceded her in death on April 16, 1968. They had two children, Larry Gene McRoy, who passed away on June 10, 1993 and Vera McRoy Gaskins-Cutler who survives and resides in Washington. She was a member of Haw Branch Church of Christ. In 1970 Doris married Guy Wilson Hill, of the Haw Branch Community in Chocowinity. They shared 16 years together before Guy passed away on June 15, 1987.
Survivors include her daughter Vera Cutler and husband Charlie (Butch) Cutler, grandsons, Benjamin Scott Gaskins, Milford (Mac) McRoy and his wife Tammy Quinn McRoy, their children, Kristen, Larry and Emily, grand- daughters, Wendy McRoy Elks and husband William (Bill) Elks, their children, Ashley and Mason, Rachael McRoy Amison and husband James, Laurie McRoy Chatfield and her son’s step-daughter Melissa Curtis and her husband Jay and their family.
Also surviving are her step-children and their families, Theodore (Ted) Hill and his wife Sylvia, their children, Todd Hill, Susan Hill Weaver and their families. Scarlet Hill Stokes and her husband Jimmy, their children Jamie Stokes and Jody Stokes Harbridge and their families. Arlene Hill Spivey and her three children Phil, Melissa, and Kelly and their families.
Her sister-in-law, Mrs. Edward Earl Wall and many nieces and nephews of whom she was very fond.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Jessie Ray Wall, Willie Gray Wall and Edward Earl Wall. Her two sisters, Lillian Josephine Wall Dixon and Margaret Louise Wall Tetterton, and her daughter-in-law, Judith Elaine Beacham McRoy.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and other times at the home of her daughter, Vera Cutler, 4502 River Rd. Washington.
