Mr. Joseph Claire Biggs, 79, of Creswell died Monday, July 28, 2008, at home.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Mount Tabor Free Will Baptist Church, Creswell with pastor Jerry Evans officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Biggs was born in Washington County, the son of the late Milton and Estelle Hassell Biggs. He was married to Iris Jane Ambrose Biggs, who preceded him in death. He later married Rae Waters Biggs of Creswell. He was a retired masonry contractor and member of Newland Hunting Club. He was a member of Mount Tabor Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Sherrie B. Phelps and Vicki B. Armstrong, both of Creswell, and Bonnie B. Phelps of Plymouth; two sons, Dennie Biggs and Tim Biggs, both of Creswell; two stepsons, Dan Rouse of Tallahassee, Fla., and David Rouse of Washington; two sisters, Mattie B. Barnes of Jacksonville, Fla., and Margie B. Phelps of Plymouth; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Chuck Dale Biggs; one sister, Eva B. Hank; and four brothers, Grady Biggs, Ed Biggs, Chester Biggs and Dallas Biggs.
The family will receive friends today from 7-9 p.m. at Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell, and other times at the home.
