Mr. Joseph Claire Biggs, 79, of Creswell died unexpectedly Monday, July 28, 2008 at his residence.
Born in Washington County, he was the son of the late Milton and Estelle Hassell Biggs and was preceded in death by his wife, Iris Jane Ambrose Biggs; son, Chuck Dale Biggs; sister, Eva B. Haak; brothers, Grady Biggs, Ed Biggs, Chester Biggs and Dallas Biggs. Mr. Biggs was a retired masonry contractor and member of Mount Tabor Free Will Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman and member of Newland Hunting Club.
His family includes his second wife, formerly of Washington, N.C., Rae Waters Rouse Biggs; daughters, Sherrie B. Phelps and Vicki B. Armstrong of Creswell, N.C., and Bonnie B. Phelps of Plymouth, N.C.; sons, Dennie Biggs and Tim Biggs of Creswell, N.C.; step-sons, Dan Rouse of Tallahassee, FL, and David Rouse of Washington, N.C.; sisters, Mattie B. Barnes of Jacksonville, FL and Margie B. Phelps of Plymouth, N.C.; twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, July 31, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Mount Tabor Free Will Baptist Church, Creswell with Pastor Jerry Evans officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family received friends on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Maitland Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
