Mr. Ralph Basnight, 80, of Plymouth died Thursday, July 31, 2008 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.
Born in Washington County, he was the son of the late Luther Lorenzo and Cornelia Barnes Basnight and was preceded in death by his wife, Ernestine Baynor Whitley Basnight; sisters, Elma B. Spruill, Annie B. Davenport, Ruby B. Freeman and Evelyn B. Winslow; brothers, Milton Basnight, Paul Basnight, Eugene Basnight and Calvin Basnight. Mr. Basnight was a retired electrical and instrument supervisor with Weyerhaeuser Corporation and member of First Christian Church. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He served on the Plymouth Town Council and was a member of the Plymouth Fire Department, Plymouth Duck’s Unlimited, Plymouth Jaycees and Plymouth Country Club.
His family includes his second wife, Jean Baynor Basnight of Plymouth, N.C.; sons, Stephen R. Basnight of Plymouth, N.C. and Thomas C. Basnight and wife Kay of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; step-daughter, Deborah Bailey and husband James of Va. Beach, Va.; grandchildren, Lyndsey B. Herring and husband Stephen of High Point, N.C., Douglas Basnight and Gregory Basnight of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; step-grandchildren, Candice B. Hall and husband Joel and Caitlin Bailey of Va. Beach, Va.; step-great-grandson, Jaden Hall of Va. Beach, Va.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 2 p.m. at First Christian Church, Plymouth with Rev. V. Tom Banks officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends on Saturday, August 2, 2008 following the services and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Christian Church. Arrangements are by Maitland Memorial Chapel, Plymouth.
