As the ball zipped through the air, John Marshall jumped high into the air, greeted the ball with his head and sent it rocketing into the back of the net for a goal.
That was just one of the highlights during Washington’s first day of soccer practice, coming on a scorching Tuesday afternoon. Marshall is one of three seniors head coach Jimmy Kozuzh will be counting on this season.
Kozuch, beginning his third year as head coach of the Pam Pack soccer team, was encouraged after the first day of practice. Kozuch is holding two-a-day practices throughout the week.
The campers have been running on the track during the morning sessions, while they are split into teams and compete in games during the afternoon session.
Like all the fall sports teams, the Pam Pack soccer players are having to deal with the intense heat.
Kozuch lost of a load of talent, and depth, off last year’s playoff-qualifying team. He’ll have to replace 13 players lost to graduation from that squad.
Though it’s early, Marshall has liked what he’s seen out of his teammates.
Along with Marshall, Kozuch is counting on John Lohman and Thomas Sutton to be key contributors.
Kozuch is hoping his Pam Pack can finish high in the Coastal Conference standings.
