Mrs. Betty B. Barnes, 70, of 193 Sparrow’s Bay Lane, Blounts Creek, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Warren Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sylvia Duke officiating. Burial will follow in Warren Memorial Cemetery in Blounts Creek.
Mrs. Barnes was born in Wilson County on Sept. 22, 1937. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin Frank Barnes and Isabelle Stroud Barnes. On Oct. 9, 1954, she married Harvey Lee Barnes, who survives. She was a secretary with D.L. Johnson Electric Co. in Wilson until her retirement in 1998. She was a member of Richland Senior Citizens Club of Aurora. She was a member of Warren Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Charles A. Barnes and William H. Barnes, both of Blounts Creek; one daughter, Crystal Leigh Varnell of Wilson; four half brothers, Tommy Barnes, Paul Barnes, Benny Ray Barnes and Robert Barnes, all of Virginia Beach, Va.; one sister, Cathy Barnes of Virginia Beach, Va.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Nancy Carroll.
The family will receive friends today from 7-8:30 p.m. at Paul Funeral Home, Washington and other times at the home.
