Washington may have posted a 6-0 win over North Pitt, but head coach Jimmy Kozuch wasn’t overly satisfied with his team’s season opener on Monday.
The Pack (1-0), playing in front of a decent-sized crowd at J.G. “Choppy” Wagner Stadium, took an early 1-0 lead on a free kick off the foot of junior Hernan Perez.
It stayed that way until there were just under five minutes remaining in the first half. Freshman Edwin Garcia collected the ball in front of the net and blasted it into the right side of the goal for a 2-0 lead.
Kozuch gathered his troops and gave them a pep talk at halftime. What he said worked as Washington tacked on four goals in the second half.
Hardison had two of those goals, coming after Garcia’s tip-in off a loose ball made it 3-0.
The Pack went up 4-0 when Hardison pushed in a rebound after the North Pitt goalie couldn’t reel in a shot. It was just a simple tap-in for Hardison.
Hardison’s second goal, making it 5-0, came moments later off a penalty kick.
John Lohman, a senior, capped the scoring on a breakaway goal with just over a couple minutes remaining in the game.
Pack goalie Stephen Worsley wasn’t tested often. When Worsley did have to make a play, the junior was up to the challenge.
The line in front of him did a nice job in keeping the ball out of range.
While Washington did get the win, the players weren’t totally happy.
The Pack is back at home Wednesday as it squares off with Edenton in a 6 p.m. match. The Aces lost just three games last season. What’s it going to take for Washington to be successful against Edenton?
