Ms. Alice Mae Slade, 90, of 186 Swindell Forest Road, Swan Quarter, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008, at home.
A funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Jobe’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Swan Quarter with Elder Levi Murray officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhill Cemetery, Swan Quarter.
Ms. Slade was born in Hyde County on Aug. 29, 1918. She was the daughter of the late George and Bertha Spencer Slade. She attended the Hyde County Public Schools. She retired as a seafood technician with Rose Bay Seafood Co. She was a member of Love and Charity Club and Hyde County Senior Citizens Club. She was a lifelong member of Jobe’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Swan Quarter, where she served in the senior choir and also the Hyde County Mass Choir.
Survivors include two daughters, Ann Sessoms of the home and Eunice Mann of Washington; one son, Elijah Slade of New Jersey; one adopted son, Edward Farmer of Greenville; one sister, Judie Ebron of Swan Quarter; one brother, Garfield Slade of Washington; two daughters-in-kind, Ellen Williams and Emily Thomas; two sons-in-kind, Lt. Col. William F. Williams and Avery Williams; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Willie Slade; one daughter, Lydia Odem Ebron; five sisters and four brothers.
Viewing will take place today from 5-7 p.m. at Randolph Funeral Home, 219 N. Bonner St., Washington.
The family will receive friends at the home.
