COLUMBIA — Mrs. Elsie Rae Sawyer, 78, of Columbia, died on Sunday at Chowan Hospital in Edenton.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Columbia Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Crabtree officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
Born in Washington County, Mrs. Sawyer was the daughter of the late Alexander F. Snell Sr. and Bessie Hassell Snell and was preceded in death by her husband, William W. Sawyer Jr.; adoptive parents, Ernest and Mamie Brickhouse.
Mrs. Sawyer was a retired librarian with Tyrrell County Public Library and member of Columbia Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include one sister, Louise A. Phelps of Buies Creek.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Columbia Missionary Baptist Church.
Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to the Columbia Missionary Baptist Church.
Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home in Creswell.
