The Rev. Jessie Harvey of 4043 Old Blounts Creek Road, Chocowinity, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, at Beaufort County Hospital in Washington.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Temple of Jesus Christ with the Rev. Theron Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
The Rev. Harvey was born Dec. 25, 1914, the son of the late Will Harvey and Mariah Branch. He attended the Beaufort County Schools. He was married to Annie Ruth Ore Harvey, who survives. He served on the executive board of Hyde County Association and was assistant chairman of the Democratic precinct of Gilead Shores. He was a member and associate pastor of Maple Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He was also emeritus pastor of Green Hill Missionary Baptist Church and Snow Hill Missionary Baptist Church of Hyde County.
Survivors include two daughters, Dr. Lillian Dixon of Washington and Carrie Garrett of Chocowinity; four sons, John W. Ore and Carnell Harvey, both of Washington, Osten Harvey of St. Albans, N.Y., and James Luther Harvey of Chocowinity; two adopted sisters, Hattie Wiggins and Queen Esther Haywood of Chocowinity; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Jessie Harvey Jr. and his sisters and brothers.
Viewing will take place today from 2-8 p.m. at Leon Randolph Funeral Home, 208 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Washington.
