Mrs. Virginia Pope Chapman, 70, of 402 East Haven Apts., Washington, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at Beaufort County Hospital in Washington.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in St. John Missionary Baptist Church, Washington with Minister Enoch Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Washington.
Mrs. Chapman was born in Halifax County on June 24, 1938. She was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Hill Simpson and Cherry Pope. She attended the Halifax County Schools. She was married to Matthew Edward Chapman, who preceded her in death. She attended Adamsville Church of God in Washington.
Survivors include two sons, Matthew Jr. “Matt Jr.” Chapman and Donnell O’Neal Chapman, both of Washington; five sisters, Shirley Mae Jones of Norfolk, Va., Mae Keyes and Susan Windley, both of Washington, Queen Blow of Bethel and Evelina Blow of Greenville; six brothers, Willie Jr. Pope, Herbert Pope and Hurbert Pope, all of Norfolk, Va., and Cherry Pope, Johnny Ray Pope and Curtis Pope, all of Washington; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home of her sister, Susan Windley, 425 Gladden St., Washington.
Arrangements are by Randolph Funeral Home, 219 N. Bonner St., Washington.
