Mr. Artis Henry Johnson Sr., 83, of 212 White Marsh Road, Roper died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in First Zion Grove Baptist Church, Roper with minister Wade Patrick officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Johnson was the son of the late Joseph H. and Iona Henson Johnson. He was married to Louise F. Johnson, who preceded him in death.
Survivors include six daughters, Gloria Scott of Roper, Marion Johnson of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., Teresa McQueen of Houston, Texas, Doris Barnes of Plymouth, Gwendolyn Jackson of Huntsville, Ala., and Joyce Johnson of Long Island, N.Y.; three sons, Artis Johnson Jr. of Roper, Troy Johnson of Oklahoma City, Okla., and David Johnson of Plymouth; five sisters, Vera Johnson and Pearl King, both of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., Evelyn Webb and Geraldine Davenport, both of Roper, and Mary Combs of Chesapeake, Va.; two brothers, Oconel Johnson of Roper and Wade Johnson of Lexington; 28 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends today from 7-8 p.m. at First Zion Grove Baptist Church, Roper.
Arrangements are by Simmons Funeral Service, Plymouth.
