Ms. Lorena Windley, 89, of 104 Bryan Place, Washington, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, at Southern Maryland Hospital in Clinton, Md.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Spring Garden Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. E.R. McNair officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Ms. Windley was born in Beaufort County on Aug. 5, 1919. She was the daughter of the late William Henry Windley Sr. and Mary J. Bonner Windley Jones. She attended the Beaufort County Schools. She retired from the former Washington City Schools food service program at John Cotten Tayloe School. She was a member of Spring Garden Missionary Baptist Church, where she served in the senior choir and the Progressive Club.
Survivors include two sons, Cedric L. Windley of Clive, Iowa, and Alonza Windley of New Bern; three daughters, Peggy Windley of Washington and Marian W. Hill and Margretta W. Dixon, both of Upper Marlboro, Md.; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and one sister, Cottie J. Allen of New York.
She was preceded in death by two sons, William H. Windley III and Henry L. Windley; two daughters, Alice F. Sneed and Saundra W. Smith and her siblings, Adeline Jones, William H. Windley Jr., Alvin D. Windley, Annie Williams and Flossie Wilson.
The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends at the home. A walk-in visitation will be conducted today from 3-7 p.m. at Whitfield &Whitley Funeral Home, Washington.
