Essie Equils Sadler, 89, of 5491 U.S. Highway 264, Scranton, died Wednesday morning, December 17, 2008 at her home.
Born in Hyde County, November 27, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Ella Mae Jarvis and William R. Equils. She worked for several years with the Department of Social Services, was a well known seamstress and an avid worker in her church until her latter years. She was a member of Scranton Christian Church.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Scranton Christian Church. David W. Mason and Michael Swindell will officiate. Burial will follow in Mount Olive Church of Christ Cemetery.
Surviving are husband of 66 years, Gaston Bell Sadler; two daughters, Audrey Dianne Lumsden of the home and Dorinda Lois Guzzo and her husband, Michael of Cape Coral, Florida; a brother, William M. Equils and wife, Dorothy of Washington; four sisters-in-law, Henrietta Equils of Richmond, Va. and Edna Equils, a resident of Cross Creek Health Care Swan Quarter, Hazel Worthman of Washington and Lucille Jones of Engelhard; brothers-in-law, Travis Sadler and wife, Christine of Washington and Robert Lee Sadler and wife, Millie of Marlboro NY; nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sadler was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters in youth, a son, Thomas Deree Sadler; a granddaughter, Heather Dianne Lumsden; a son-in-law, Roy Wilson Lumsden; Three brothers, William Kelly Equils and wife, Zadia, Gilbert Bradt Equils, Zonnie Eugene Equils; sister, Rosa “Tiny” Cahoon and husband, Robert; brother-in-law, Lindsey Warren Sadler; sister-in-law, Kathleen Sadler McKinney.
We would like to thank Pungo District Hospital, Boyette Medical Center, Hydeland Home Health, Community Home Care and Hospice, Hyde County Rescue, and Bertie Ambulance Co. for all of their help and kindness during my mother’s illness and also to one special person who told me what to expect next and for coming to our rescue when she wouldn’t listen to anyone else. You know who you are and we love you.
