Blount helps ’Canes get off to a fast start in win over Tigers

YEATESVILLE — Pamlico County went on a 14-0 run to start the contest, and never looked back, as the 2007 NCHSAA Class 1-A state runner-ups roared past Creswell, 75-40, in the opening round of the 2008 Washington Daily News Holiday Invitational.
Pamlico jumped out to a big first half lead as forward Braelyn Blount scored 14 first half points to help the Hurricanes race out to a 44-15 lead.
Blount finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead the ‘Canes, while Dominique Holliday added 15 points. Kendall Hamm scored 13 and Shane Whitfield added 11 for Pamlico.
Creswell was paced by Justin Phelps with 13 points, while Danvonta Phelps added eight.
Pamlico will take on Northsides’ junior varsity team in the first semi-final at 6 p.m. on Monday, while Creswell will match up with Cape Hatteras in the loser’s bracket at 3 p.m. on Monday.
