Mrs. Bonnie English Ward, 81, of 1682 Goshen Road, the Middletown community, Engelhard, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at Pungo District Hospital in Belhaven.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Bryan Funeral Service in Swan Quarter with Steve Bryan officiating. Burial will follow in Soule Cemetery.
Mrs. Ward was born in Merdian, Miss., on Dec. 21, 1926. She was the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Wright English. She owned and operated a restaurant with her mother during her earlier working years. She and her husband, Lee Marion Ward, who preceded her in death, moved to Hyde County in 1979. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Charlotte.
Survivors include one daughter, Rebecca W. Plowman of the home; one sister, Adell E. Rogers of Quitman, Miss., and one grandchild.
The family suggests that memorials be directed to Community Home Care and Hospice, P.O. Box 130, Engelhard, NC 27824.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at Bryan Funeral Service, Swan Quarter, and other times at the home.
