Mr. Stephen Moore Jr. 83, of 1156 Reno Road, Plymouth, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at home.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in New Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Plymouth with the Rev. Harry Lee White Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Moore Cemetery, Plymouth.
Mr. Moore was born in Plymouth on May 8, 1925. He was the son of the late Annie McNair and Stephen Moore Sr. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. On Jan. 10, 1951, he married Mary E. Armistead Moore, who survives. He was a retired electrician. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans and Golden Crown Lodge No. 238 IBPOEOW of Plymouth. He was a member of New Chapel Missionary Baptist Church of Plymouth, N.C. Roanoke Missionary Baptist Association and an Albemarle Union deacon and layman.
Survivors include three sons, the Rev. Edison Ransome and Johnnie Moore, both of Plymouth, and Christopher “Rex” Moore of Germantown, Md.; four daughters, Teresa Ann Moore and Doris Annette Moore, both of Plymouth, Mary M. Nash of Raleigh and Sarah Marie Smith of Wendell; two adopted children, Doreen A. Bryant of Raleigh and Samuel M. Armistead of Gatesville; one sister, Ethel M. Council of Knightdale; 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Stanley O. Moore; two sisters, Emma Gee and Doris Cherry and one brother, Shedrick Moore Sr.
The family will receive friends today from 7-8 p.m. at New Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Plymouth.
