Mr. Gerald Grant “Geb” Gaylord, 89, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, in Richmond, Va.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Luke’s and St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, Roper.
Mr. Gaylord was a lifelong resident of Washington County. He was the son of the late James Harrison and Caledonia Vail Gaylord. He served in the Army during World War II with the 81st Infantry unit (the Wildcats) in the South Pacific where he received three bronze stars. He was married to Isolind Gaylord, who preceded him in death. He was a charter member of the Roper Ruritans and was an active volunteer and past president of the Plymouth Food Pantry. He was a member of the Washington County Historical Society and volunteered many hours at the Port O’Plymouth Musuem. He was a retired farmer and businessman. He was a member of St. Luke’s and St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Roper, where he was a former vestry member.
Survivors include his children, Sue Sitterson of Sandston, Va., and Jeri Evans of Bon Air, Va.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one sister, Rose McCallister of Greenville.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at St. Luke’s and St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Roper.
