Mr. James Carter Peele, age 76, a resident of 20 Sandspur Lane, Aurora, died Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at Two Rivers Nursing Home of New Bern.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Edward Christian Church and will be conducted by Pastor David Linton. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. Steve Carrow, Bennie Davis, Freddie Duncan, Chris Lewis, Donald Hopkins and Daniel Suggs will serve as pallbearers. Willie Peele will serve as honorary pallbearer.
Mr. Peele was born in Beaufort County on September 17, 1932 to the late William David and Ida Cayton Peele. On May 30, 1954 he married Bonnie Mae Smithwick who survives. He was a retired veteran of the United States Navy with 30 years of service and then went on to become a certified diesel mechanic and retired from PCS Phosphate. He was a member of Edward Christian Church where he served faithfully as a deacon for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Smithwick Peele of the home; his son, William “Robbie” Peele and wife Lisa Marie of the home; his mother-in-law, Katie Smithwick of Fayetteville; his son-in-law, Levie Hardy of the Crystal Beach community; seven grandchildren, Mandie Sosebee, Rebecca Hardy, Heidie Peele Lewis and husband Christopher, Willie Peele, James Alan Peele, Joshua Peele, Jaime Kris Rowe; four great-grandchildren, Jarrett Sosebee, Tyler Sosebee, Brice Sosebee and Christopher Allen Lewis, Jr. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Vickie Hardy on June 7, 2002 and also four brothers, Bill Peele, Linwood Peele, Troy Peele, Adrian Peele and one sister, Dorothy “Dot” Peele Jarvis.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service on Saturday at Edward Christian Church and other times at the home.
