WILLIAMSTON — Seniors Kylan Harrell and Derek Everett couldn’t have asked for a better ending.
Harrell scored 17 points and Everett added 14 as Williamston exploded for a season-high 78 points in a nine-point win (78-69) over Northside on the Tigers’ Senior Night.
The two Tigers seniors were joined in double-figures by Javon Beach, who netted 16 points and K.J. Brown, who added 14.
The Tigers won despite getting out-rebounded 31-17 and allowing the Panthers to get to the free throw line 39 times (29-of-39).
The Tigers (4-15, 3-9) succeeded with hot shooting, as they connected on 6-of-8 three-point attempts and shot 57.2 percent from the field.
Calvin Cox had a game-high 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Panthers, while Isaiah McCullor added 14 points.
Note: Before the game, Everett, Harrell, Clarance Pointe and Trevon Bond were recognized as part of the Tigers’ Senior Night celebration.
Paschal powers Tigers
Once again, Katie Paschal was the difference maker for the Williamston Tigers.
Williamston outscored Northside 45-1 with Paschal on the floor on Friday night, as the state’s leading scorer (34.2 points per game) racked up 27 points in just 11 minutes of action in the Lady Tigers 59-35 win over the Panthers.
The Lady Tigers jumped on the Lady Panthers early as Williamston opened the game on a 17-0 run as Paschal and Cassie Harrell combined for 15 first quarter points.
Williamston kept up the intensity and stretched the lead to 29-4 with 6:37 left in the second quarter. That’s when Elks went primarily to his bench.
Northside managed to get to within 14 points by the half, but when Paschal and the starters returned in the third quarter, Williamston was able to cement the victory, going up by as many as 29 points before the second unit returned to the court.
Zakkeya Morris added nine points for the Tigers, while Harrell finished with eight.
Northside (8-11, 2-10) was paced by Rebekkah Bonney with 14 points, while Rachelle Davis scored all 11 of her points in the second half.
Before the game, Williamston held its Senior Night festivities as it honored Jessica Clemmons, the team’s lone senior.
Northside will return to the hardwood Tuesday against Roanoke, while Williamston will travel to Southside that same night.
