Emily Spencer Gibbs, 94, long time resident of North Lake Rd., Fairfield and more recently a resident of Brookdale-Sterling House in Goldsboro, died Sunday, March 8, 2009.
Born in Hyde County, February 11, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Kizzy M. Spencer. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Church of Christ and since moving attended the Church of Christ in Goldsboro.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ. Leon Williams, Phil Emmert and Doug Gibbs will officiate. Burial will follow in the Robert Carson Gibbs Family Cemetery on North Lake Rd.
Surviving are a daughter, Mavis Gibbs and husband Royce of Goldsboro; a son, Donald Gibbs and wife, Linda of Greenville; grandchildren, Melanie Gates and husband, Bruce of Goldsboro; Clifton Gibbs and wife, Judith of High Point; Carol Pereira and husband Sean of Durham and Cameron Gibbs of Greenville; great-grandchildren, Siobhan Crum, and husband, Jason, Meghan Classen, Daniel Gibbs, Stacie Gates, Michael Gates; step-grandchildren, Stella Ann Campbell and Nellie Benting; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Gibbs was preceded in death by brothers Clinton Spencer and Burien Spencer; sisters, Janie Rhodes and Marie Williams.
The family will receive friends at Bryan Funeral Service in Swan Quarter on Friday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
