Hazel Vanilla Alexander Spanks, 76, a resident of 1341 Paradise Road, Edenton, died Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at her home.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at St. John Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Lawrence Satchell officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Columbia.
Mrs. Spanks was born in Tyrrell County on Aug. 12, 1932. She was the daughter of the late John Sykes Sr. and Gertie Alexander Spanks. She was employed as a domestic.
Survivors include two brothers, John Sykes Jr. and Charlie Bowser, both of New Jersey; three sisters, Bertha Vickers of Elizabeth City, Ananky Hosang of Virginia and Ruby Vickers of Columbia.
