Mrs. Lita Grey Swindell Harrison, age 84, a resident of 48 River Acres East, Washington, died Tuesday, March 17, 2009.
Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2009 at the First Christian Church of Washington and will be conducted by Dr. Michael Price and Rev. Douglas Kriz. Michael Bateman, Phillip Dixon, Donnie Woolard, Bobby Rees, Joe McKoy and Addison Bass will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Harrison was born in Beaufort County on February 26, 1925 to the late Enoch Ray Swindell and Mary Elizabeth Cooper Swindell. She was a 1943 graduate of Washington High School and then attended East Carolina University Teacher’s College. On January 20, 1945 she married Richard Leigh Harrison, Sr. who preceded her in death on February 8, 2003.
For many years Mrs. Harrison was dedicated to teaching children at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church pre-school and Eastern Elementary. Grey loved to paint and she shared her artwork with many people. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Christian Women’s Fellowship, Ladies Circle Group 4, Washington Women’s Club and the Washington Lion’s Club.
Survivors include her daughter, Betty H. Wilson and husband Gary of Washington, her son, Richard L. Harrison, Jr. and wife Mona P. of Richmond, VA, four grandchildren, Rev. Meredith Kriz and husband Rev. Douglas Kriz of Indianapolis, IN, Laura Harrison of Newport News, VA, Jason R. Wilson and wife Alie of New Bern, NC, Elizabeth McAllister and husband Andrew of Greensboro, NC and two great grandchildren, Rachel Kriz and Tyler Harrison Kriz. She was preceded in death by three sisters.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, Pre-School, 401 E. 2nd St., Washington, NC 27889.
