Mrs. Hazel Gibbs Pledger, 87, of 241 Jacks Rd., Engelhard died Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Beaufort County Medical Center in Washington.
Born in Hyde County, August 14, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Gibbs and Lydia Neal Gibbs, and was a member of Pleasant Grove Church of Christ.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the family plot at Fulford Cemetery, Phil Emmert will officiate.
Surviving are two sons, Vernon R. Pledger of Richmond Virginia; Leon Pledger and wife Dorothy of Chocowinity; a daughter Delores Berry of Manteo; five brothers, Cleaven Gibbs, Curley Gibbs, Benjamin Gibbs, David Gibbs and Mickel Gibbs; eight sisters, Lila Mae Manning, Grace Ball, Betty Coffield, Sophia Lynn, Loye Parish, Glenda Blinson, Diane Kaleel and Brenda Gibbs, six Grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Mrs. Pledger was preceded in death by brothers, Gladford Gibbs, Orville Gibbs, Frankie Gibbs and William Gibbs; sisters, Nelsie Gibbs, Beaulah Cahoon and Hilda Beasley.
The family will receive friends at Bryan Funeral Service in Swan Quarter on Saturday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
