Mrs. Marjorie Jones Griffin, age 85, a resident of Washington, NC died Monday March 23, 2009 as a result of an automobile accident.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday March 28, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington officiated by Fred Wilson. A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at Fairfield Cemetery in Hyde County.
Mrs. Marjorie was born in Fairfield on May 24, 1923, daughter of the late Robert William “Capt. Bob” Jones, Sr. and the late Winnie Mae Kemp Jones. She was a graduate of Fairfield High School and continued her education at Salisbury Business College. Mrs. Marjorie married Richard S. Pinner, Jr. on September 16, 1944. Upon moving to Belhaven she became co-owner and operator of Pinner Shoe Store. Later they moved extensively with the United States Navy. Upon moving to Washington she married Russell David Griffin on November 26, 1977 who preceded her in death on December 24, 1992. Mrs. Griffin was a bookkeeper for Harris Hardware and the Beaufort County Home. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Chocowinity. Mrs. Griffin loved all animals and music. She played the piano or organ for various churches throughout her life and was currently playing at Unity Church of Christ.
Survivors include a son: Richard S. “Joe” Pinner, III and his wife Cynthia of Greeley, CO; a sister Irene Field of Salisbury, NC; a sister-in-law: Jean C. Jones of Washington; two grandchildren: Daniel J. Pinner of Greeley, Co and Karen Pinner Frizzell and husband Jordan of Gunnison, CO. Mrs. Griffin was anticipating the birth of her first great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a brother: Robert W. “Bud” Jones and two sisters: Edith Carawan and Ruby Larson.
The family will receive friends 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday March 27, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington. Following graveside services in Fairfield, a reception will be held at Lake Mattamuskeet Lodge.
