Mr. Albert James Martin, 87, a lifelong resident of Jamesville, died Friday, March 27, 2009 at his residence.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Jamesville Christian Church with Rev. Doug Stokes officiating. Burial will follow in Jamesville Cemetery.
He was born on Feb. 12, 1922, in Martin County, the son of the late Joseph Franklin Martin and Cottie Holiday Martin. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Iceline M. Warrington, Bertie M. Concklin and Grace M. Barber; brothers Joseph A. Martin, Edward Lee Martin, Thomas O. Martin and William M. Martin.
He was a retired filter-plant operator for Weyerhaeuser Corp. and also retired from the Jamesville Fire Department. He was a member of Jamesville Christian Church.
His family includes his wife Marie Gurkin Martin of Jamesville; daughter Phyllis M. Hardison and husband Robbie of Dunn; sons Albert James Martin, Jr. of Raleigh and Paul Gurkin Martin of Jamesville; sisters Esta M. Hardison of Jamesville and Lucille M. Wood and husband Vernon of Chicago Park, Calif. Three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law and 24 nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Jamesville Christian Church and other times at the residence.
Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to Jamesville Christian Church.
Arrangements are by Maitland Memorial Chapel, Plymouth.
