Mr. Seth David Latham, age 53, a resident of 365 Tooley St., Belhaven, NC, died Monday April 13, 2009 at the Pungo District Hospital in Belhaven.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday April 15, 2009 at the Belhaven Missionary Baptist Church and will be conducted by Pastor David Pierce. Burial will follow in Belhaven Community Cemetery.
Mr. Latham was born in Beaufort County on October 14, 1955 to Charles and Ann Cuthrell Latham who survive. On August 17, 1985 he married Rebecca “Becky” Goodman who also survives. Seth was a graduate of John A. Wilkinson High School in Belhaven and then went on to East Carolina University where he received his Bachelors Degree in English and History. Upon returning to Belhaven he worked with his father and brother in the family business known as C.F. Latham and Co. He attended Belhaven Missionary Baptist Church. He was Scout Master for Troop 80 of Belhaven and was recognized by local civic organizations for his work in saving and renovating the scout hut to provide all scouts a place to meet, especially his beloved Troop 80. He was a founding member and instrumental in the preservation of the Wilkinson Center. He also was a founding member of the SCV Camp of Belhaven and established the Middleton Confederate Monument. Seth assisted in coaching his son’s baseball and basketball teams. He was also an avid hiker, an accomplished carpenter and house builder and he always had a project going on. Most recently the construction of a new home for his family and a pier for his father which he nailed by hand even while fighting cancer. He loved Belhaven and was a knowledgeable expert in Belhaven history, which he would often share with local schools. Most of all he loved his family and was a wonderful provider for them and his community. He was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Other survivors include his children, Rachel Lauren Latham, Austin Thomas Latham and JoAnna Layne Latham all of the home, his brother, C. F. Latham, Jr. of Belhaven, his sister, Karen Latham Lanier of Belhaven, his sister-in-law, Elise G. Davis and husband Rick of Raleigh, his brother-in-law, Jeff Goodman of Wilson and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday April 14, 2009 at the Belhaven Missionary Baptist Church and other times at the home 365 Tooley St. Belhaven, NC 27810.
