Mrs. Cora Canady Bishop

Mrs. Cora Frances Canady Bishop, age 85, a resident of 833 Swindell Road, Pantego, NC died Sunday April 19, 2009 at her home.
A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday April 21, 2009 at the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home in Belhaven, officiated by Linwood Adams and Reggie Braziel. Burial will follow in the Yeatesville Cemetery. Ricky Adams, Tony Griekspoor, Junior Joyner, Marvin Smith, Nelson Wallace, Jr. and Hallas Boyd will serve as pallbearers.
Ms. Cora was born in Pantego, NC on September 14, 1923, daughter of the late Walter Frederick Canady, Sr. and Maude Duke Canady. On October 4, 1947, she married Ernest Hertford (E.H.) Bishop, Jr. who survives. Ms. Cora was employed at Davis Drug Store and Dr. Winstead’s office. She volunteered and was very active in the school system, was a caregiver for others, a Vacation Bible School Teacher, Sunday School Teacher and a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader. She was a member of New Hope Church of Christ. Ms. Cora was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her husband, E.H., Jr. of the home, she is survived by her daughters: Maude E. Bishop of Atlantic Beach, Gloria Bishop Williams and her husband, Eddie of Raleigh and Mary Bishop Alligood and her husband, Tommy of Greenville; five grandchildren: Murphy Ernest Ratcliff and his wife, Emily, Jody Elizabeth Ratcliff, Bishop Edward Williams, Madison Jules Alligood, and Breanna Bishop Alligood; two great grandchildren: Morgan Marie Ratcliff and Hunter Bishop Ratcliff; her sister: Virginia Canady Copeland, of Pantego; her twin brother: Vernon C. Canady of Pantego; her nephew: Tim W. Copeland of Washington, her niece: Paula Meekins of Washington and special friends: Robbie Rouse and his wife, Jane Leigh of Washington. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Walter F. Canady, Jr. and her sisters; Dorothy Baxley and Joyce Canady.
The family will receive friends prior to the service 2-3 p.m. Tuesday at Paul Funeral Home in Belhaven and other times at the home.
